About This Policy

Lab Nova Ltd (“LabNova”, “we”, “our”, “us”), company number 17004710, registered in England and Wales, explains in this Privacy Policy how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the LabNova mobile application (the “App”) or this website.

1. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide
• Name and email address
• Account login details (via Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In, or email)
• Study preferences and progress
• Support communications
• Optional public display name, if you choose to appear on the leaderboard

2.2 Automatically Collected Information
The App itself does not use any analytics or crash-reporting SDK, and does not collect device identifiers, usage-pattern data, or diagnostic reports beyond what’s needed for it to function (e.g. device type/OS version sent with each request, for compatibility).

This website uses Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site (e.g. page views, clicks, scroll behavior). Clarity may use cookies and similar technologies. See Microsoft’s Privacy Statement for details on how it processes data.

2.3 Payment Information
Payment processing for App subscriptions is handled by Apple (and Google, where applicable) via their in-app purchase systems. LabNova does not store your card or billing details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:
• Provide and improve the App
• Personalize learning experiences
• Track study progress
• Maintain security and prevent abuse
• Communicate important updates
• Understand website usage (via Clarity) to improve this site

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We may share information with:
• Hosting and infrastructure providers (our database and server hosts)
• Authentication providers (Apple, Google)
• Purchase and subscription platforms (Apple, Google, Superwall)
• Microsoft (Clarity analytics, website only)
• Legal authorities, if required by law

4. Data Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted data transmission, restricted access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure.

5. Data Retention

• Account data is retained while your account is active.
• Study data is retained to maintain your progress.
• Data is deleted upon account deletion, except where retention is required by law or for fraud prevention (e.g. preventing abuse of subscription free trials via a deleted-and-recreated account).

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
• Access, correct, or export your personal data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
• Opt out of non-essential communications

Account deletion is self-service — you can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly in the App (Profile → Delete Account). You can also make a request via email below.

If you are in the UK or EEA and believe we haven’t adequately addressed a concern, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

7. Children’s Privacy

The App requires users to self-certify that they are 14 years of age or older before creating an account, and is not intended for children under 14. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 14. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under 14, we will take steps to delete that information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us below.

8. International Data Transfers

LabNova is operated by Lab Nova Ltd (UK). Some of the providers we use to run the App and this website are based outside the UK/EEA, primarily in the United States, which means your data may be transferred to and processed there. These providers include:
• Our database host (Neon, US-based Postgres hosting)
• Google (Sign-In authentication, and Gemini for generating quiz content — Gemini never receives your personal data)
• Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases)
• Superwall (subscription/paywall infrastructure)
• Microsoft (Clarity analytics, website only)

Where we transfer personal data outside the UK/EEA, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum (IDTA) and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with these providers, or their own certified equivalent safeguards, as the legal transfer mechanism.

9. Leaderboard & Public Data

If you opt in to the leaderboard, only your chosen display name and score are shown to other users — never your real name, email, or account details. Leaderboard participation is off by default; you can enable or disable it at any time in the App. You can report abusive display names directly from the leaderboard.

10. Third-Party Services & 11. Policy Updates

The App relies on third-party services for authentication (Google, Apple) and purchases (Apple, Google, Superwall). It does not use any analytics service. This website uses Microsoft Clarity for analytics. Each provider’s data handling is governed by their own privacy policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the “Last Updated” date above and may be communicated in-app for material changes.
